Petrobowl Competition Trip Report
by SPE Aberdeen's Heriot-Watt University Student Chapter
April 9th 2025 – Arrival in Paris
Our journey began on the 9th of April when a group of postgraduate students
from Heriot Watt University flew to Paris. After a smooth travel experience, we
checked into our hotel at around noon. Once settled, the team gathered for
lunch, setting the tone for our Paris adventure and giving us some time to rest
before the competition.
On the day of the competition we faced the University of
Leoben in the first round. We secured a win and advanced to the next stage. In the second round,
we encountered IFP School—the defending champions for 2024 and 2025.
Their strong performance created an early and challenging matchup, but every
moment on the field contributed to our growth and learning.

Lessons Learned & Benefits
This trip was much more than a competition; it was a valuable opportunity for
academic growth, professional networking, and personal development. We
gained exposure to fresh ideas by interacting with various teams. The event also
allowed us to connect with experts and peers from leading European
institutions, thereby expanding our collaborative network. Our team emerged
stronger and more united from this experience.

Conclusion
Travelling to Paris and participating in the competition proved to be an enriching
experience that went beyond the event itself. We are deeply grateful to our
travel funders for their generous support, which not only enabled us to take part
in this significant opportunity but also paved the way for future collaborations
and innovative research endeavors. The lessons learned and connections
established during this trip will definitely shape our future projects. Thank you
for investing in our growth and success.
