Abstract:
An injection well in the HPHT field located in the Central North Sea required a better understanding of the injection capacity, containment, and profiles for produced water re-injection. The unique fibre optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS)/distributed acoustic system (DAS) was deployed into the well immediately after the injectivity test to study the injection profile through Temperature Warmback Analysis.
The fibre optic line surface system comprised a micro-footprint, which integrated seamlessly within the limited space afforded by the pumping package and deployed into the well via unique freefall technology, allowing the Warmback study to commence rapidly contribute to the speed of results. Upon completion, it was rigged down in a matter of minutes enabling the next stage of operation to take place immediately.
This case study details the practical use of recently published multi-trace inversion methodologies, including both temporal and spatial analysis of DTS data, to deliver greater analysis accuracy. We examine the use of pre-deployment synthetic modelling where type curves for a range of injectivity profiles allow the rapid identification of maturity of the Warmback, further reducing the time required to gather the necessary data. In addition, DAS data analysis confirmed the injection containment without breaking the cap rock.
Kevin Rose Biography.
An engineering graduate of the University of Aberdeen, Kevin began his career in 2007 working as a Field Engineer for Kongsberg Maritime before moving to Baker Hughes where he worked for a number of years across field operations, technical support and finally, as a Senior Design Engineer in new product development. In 2017 Kevin moved to Well-Sense and has been involved in the design, operation and currently in the business development of their Fiberline Intervention system.
