Join us on 27th June to discuss inclusivity and social mobility with the Big Conversation team, and Saskia King, Skills partnership and Social Mobility Senior Advisor, bp.
Saskia has over 10 years of experience working in global energy organisations within People and Culture, both in traditional business partnering roles, and more recently within bp’s Future Talent team as a Social Mobility and Skills Partnerships Senior Advisor.
Saskia's career had an unconventional start. Coming from a working-class background with no family history of university attendance, she self-funded her studies, and became a qualified HR practitioner while working full-time since the age of 17. Without a network to enable her to gain meaningful work experience, she carved her own path. This sparked her passion for ensuring others from lower socioeconomic backgrounds have a fair chance to succeed in their careers.
Saskia’s team lead bp’s work around building longer-term talent pipelines, which includes strategic workforce planning, education & outreach activities, and driving forward bp’s Social Mobility Framework for Action. Saskia leads bp’s global work experience programme, and strongly believes that encouraging work experience through internships, apprenticeships, and skill-building programmes can significantly contribute to levelling the playing field and enhancing social mobility for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
